window shopping

I stopped by the new Kohl's in Gig Harbor last night, and I had high hopes for the place.  I don't normally shop there, but I'd been meaning to check it out ever since the store opened a few months back.  I've seen some of LC's collection online, and I like what I saw.

However, I had no such luck and I really struck out on my little shopping excursion.  Blame it on the fact that I was hungry & tired after my long commute home.  Blame it on my lack of divine fashion sense.  Or just blame it on the rain, which we've been getting a lot of lately!

Anyways, I did try on two outfits that I thought I'd share.  The first outfit is what I wore into the store, so it doesn't really count (even though it's my favorite of the 3)!  Sorry for the lack of accessories and shoe variety, but I didn't feel like smuggling them into the dressing room.
1 - cardigan - Target / boyfriend tee - Nordstrom (old) / scarf  (old) - similar / jeans - AE Super Skinny / boots - Sears
2 - sweater - Kohl's / mint jeans - Kohl's / boots - Sears
3 - gray dot sweater - Kohl's / jeans - AE Super Skinny / boots - Sears
After putting these three photos side-by-side, I had to laugh at the fact that I apparently only know one way to pose.  I think I was trying to hide the tags, so I wasn't left with much wiggle room!  I really liked the color of the mint jeans, but they were super thin and almost felt more like leggings.  I kinda felt naked in them.  I did like the color combo of the mint with the tan sweater, but I wasn't a fan of how the sweater fit me.  So that outfit was a fail.  I really liked the gray polka-dot sweater on the far right.  It fit really well, and can easily be dressed up with a scarf or statement necklace.  I almost bought it, but decided that it wasn't worth $36.  I'm sure I can probably find something similar at Forever 21 or H&M for half the price.

I never did find any of LC's stuff, which was a bummer.  I asked the sales associate where I could find it, and she looked at me like she wasn't quite sure who Lauren Conrad was or why I was bothering her with such a silly question.  Her reply was, "They're scattered everywhere".  Oh well, maybe next time!

On the bright side, I found this super-blingy watch that I thought was cute.  I don't have a silver watch yet so I've been keeping my eyes open.  I didn't end up buying it last night, but it's on my radar now.

I almost walked out empty-handed, when Horton caught my eye on my way towards the exit.  Chloe loves anything Dr. Suess related, and I knew she was having a rough day.  The poor kid had to have a sliver pulled out of her foot by dear ol' Dad (the official sliver-puller at our house!), and I was told via text that it did not go well.  Horton was only $5 so I grabbed one (book not included).
She loved her surprise and forgot all about that pesky sliver.  Such a sweetie!
Do you shop at Kohl's?  Any words of advice for my next trip?  I was in the junior's section, which may have been where I went wrong.  But the women's section seemed so old-ladyish to me.  Help?

  2. I don't have much luck at Kohls either. The only time I will shop there is if they are having one of their early bird/night owl sales. Prices are slashed and you can find really good deals, which are advertised in the papers. I am also in that period in my life where I am not sure if I should shop in the juniors section or somewhere else, so I feel you confusion.

    1. I think that's why I like places like H&M, since it's perfect for our age group. :)

  3. I very rarely shop at Kohl's I always feel I can get the same thing for a lower price elsewhere.. and the clothes never fit me well. I'm a really tiny person. But my husband does sometimes..

  4. All those outfits look fab on you! Love that mint color! Also love that blingy watch!

I haven't shopped at Khol's in awhile. Mainly because my fat ass can't fit into any of the Junior's clothes that I used to be able to fit into with no problem, and the "adult" section looks like stuff my grandma would wear. I just can't win at that place.

I really wish there was an affordable, trendy clothing store for adult women that didn't target teens and size negative 5s. :/

  5. Thanks, Christi! And what about H&M, do you ever shop there? I feel like it's more "grown up" than the typical junior's section, but it's not old-lady clothes.

    1. I used to buy Bubblegum jeans all the time from Macy's, i totally forgot about those!! I should check them out. I have tried on colored jeans at American Eagle and H&M but I swear they are all so thin. It's like wearing tights. :)

    1. Thanks Michelle! :) I'm still on the hunt for mint jeans (better quality) and also a dusty rose color. I saw a pic of Cameron Diaz wearing some and now i'm obsessed with finding a pair.

  10. We used to have a khols right by my old house and it's so funny b/c mostly i'd just buy the 5 dollar stuffed animals and kids books at the front, lol.. i got abraham a tigger and a book last time, haha! love the HOrton! I also love that gray polka dot sweater but right 36 bucks, no, they have them at target kinda like that for like 14.99! But another funny thing is they do have good jewelry, we bought a bunch of xmas gifts in that section one year AND they have good kids clothes and I love the house stuff. Did you look in that section?

    1. Nope I didn't even think to look at house stuff! I should go back. I have some shelves in the dining room that I really want to update with cute little knick-knacks and vases. P.S. I get to see you in 15 days!!! Eeeek!

  11. Hi Rachael!

I LOVE shopping at Kohls! Its actually one of my go to places. I'm 23 and have been avoiding the juniors section for about 4 years now. The Ladies section can look a little drab and intimidating, but I suggest sifting though the Lauren Conrad collection about once a season (you can usually pick up the good stuff for at least 40% off!) and generally Elle has cute styles as well! Vera Wang is generally a little out there for me, but the line offers a few great dressier pieces every once in a while.

I have several posts about shopping at Kohl's- feel free to check them out! :)

    Happy bargaining!
