throwback thursday: blonde edition

So there was a year or two in my life when I decided being platinum blonde was the way to go.  I was about 23 or 24, had a weird obsession with Paris Hilton (can't believe I just admitted that), and somehow got the idea stuck in my head that blonde hair was for me.  Sadly I can't find any clear pics from when it was practically white, but you can see the evolution of the blonde in these photos.

I started out gradually, and got blonder and blonder as time went on.

I should point out that I was bleaching my own hair each time.  And I didn't just bleach the roots, like you're supposed to.  I did all of my hair...every single time.  I really don't know what I was thinking.  (Actually, I'm pretty sure I was thinking super blonde hair = hot.)  I finally stopped bleaching it when I noticed several chunks of my hair were way shorter than the rest of it.  So basically, my hair was breaking off.  My poor locks!

So, I decided I'd dye it back to plain ol' brown.  By myself.  Without using a toner.  If you are like I was and don't have any knowledge of hair color, than you might not guess that this would turn my hair bluish-gray.  Because I sure didn't guess that's what would happen.  But it did.  I really wish I would have taken a picture of that, but I rushed to the salon the next morning to have it fixed.

Since then I've had brown hair, with the occasional highlights.  By a professional only!  And my hair has thanked me for it.

Got any embarrassing hair stories of your own?

    1. The weirdest part is, even though my hair was yellow and/or orange and totally damaged, to this day I have never received as much male attention as I did as a blonde. Which just goes to show that blondes really do have more fun! I would love to have highlights all the time but I just get annoyed with all the upkeep.

    1. Aww, you're sweet! There were times when I think it looks ok. I didn't post the worst of the worst. The internet isn't ready to see that. :)

  3. Haha! Love this post! I like you with a little blonde, although I can't picture you with platinum blonde! Haha! But you're a gorgeous brunette! :) I did (lots of) highlights for 15 years and then a year or 2 ago, decided to grow out my natural. It's brown. (Hair industry calls it blonde but to me, it's brown!) I like it though. I kept it natural color for awhile and recently got highlights again b/c i missed my blonde. BUT she didn't realize how much blonde i wanted & did VERY LITTLE. Pretty, but i still kinda miss being blonde! Haha!

    1. I know what you mean! I always start to miss the blonde, so I'll get more and more highlights, and then I'll see a picture of myself when it's super dark and I think "OMG I miss it dark!!!!" Haha its a vicious cycle. Too bad highlights are so dang expensive! Maybe I should try ombre....

      Thanks for the comment!

  4. Oh man-- I had bright blonde hair for all of HS and college, until finally a boyfriend in graduate school asked me what I looked like as a brunette...and I couldn't remember. Cue Sar dying her hair back to her original color, and not even worrying about it until it gets so long it gets caught in her armpits ('cuz that's how you know it's haircut time).

  6. Your hair looks great now! I can't see the blonde pics too well but they look good to me too! Ugh about it falling out, that's the pits. I've only ever done my hair professionally blonde except the time in 9th grade when I thought putting sun in in it would be a good idea and it turned a weird orange color. My mom rushed me to the salon, bless her! Ever since then I leaned my lesson.

I had a bad run in while pregnant. Everyone says you get the great hair but its just not true for everyone. My hair was falling out and it was miserable. I went to my natural hair color and cut a pixie so I could just re grow healthy hair. Now it's back to blonde. I'm so all or nothing. If I started with highlights I knew I would go platinum again haha

    Anyway love the post!!

    1. Haha a bunch of my friends used sun-in too. I never tried it but I do remember squeezing lemon juice onto my hair in middle school and then laying out in the sun. I don't think it worked. That is so weird that your hair got worse when you were pregnant, I've never heard of that!!

      Thanks for the comment!! :)

  7. you were a HOT blonde! lol, did you have more fun as a blonde? Brunette is the most awesome on you.. it's funny how we always want what we don't have. I've always wanted to have brown hair but can never pull it off b/c i'm naturally blonde so when the roots grow out it looks weird.. then i've tried red and it always just washes out even when it's permanant... then i went BLACK under blonde.. ya just the underneath part, followed by red under blonde and even a purple color! lol
